PSI Expands Continuously with Demands of 5,000 Satellites in Production Each Day, with More than 7 Million in Market Share, and the Introduction of the OTA Auto Tuner Systems.
Somporn Theerarojanapong, the Executive Director of PSI Holding Co., Ltd., admits the current total distributions of its satellites of over 7 million pieces with present production capability of around 5,000 units a day. Future predictions suggests an increase in demands from the market due to the quality of the products and the great reception from the consumers. PSI is proud of its history and the company plans to further develop its products quality, technologies and good corporate governance.
“The company prefers to invest in smaller sums over a long period of time. Investments can be very expensive, a direct, short-term investments cost a fortune, but the company has been making small investments for the past 10 years. Our business offer new options for service providers of information and contents. The investments of 200-300 million baht per year translate into long-term investments,” นายสมพร commented. Nowadays, advertising plays a more major part in satellite TV business: sponsorship and investments opportunities for the media provider in development and presentation of the stations.
As for competitors in the satellite TV segment, นายสมพร admits that currently there are many satellite TV service providers competing in the markets. Each of these providers offers different packages and incentives of which are very attractive and competitive depending on their functions and standards. In the past, quantities of channels offered were the selling points of most satellite companies, but now, qualities and contents, not quantities are what consumers look for in a service provider. Therefore, the days when hardware sell themselves are pretty much over.
The future trends suggest higher and more competitive satellite TV markets, along with an increase in advertisement markets will drive the satellite TV sectors to perform at a higher level. The competitiveness will benefit the population as a whole, as providers offer better services, better programming and better reception systems of HD TV.
In Thailand, the satellite TV industry is still growing and there are only a few supports from the government and regulations are still being discussed. Most of the cost and problems encountered must be handled by the service providers, even though satellite is a global communications tool. Operational difficulties are common within any business segments, but competition is still low.
However, the transfer of information in HD through the Internet TV technologies is still in development, a theory, in Thailand. This is due to many limiting factors: streaming contents in HD capability is still not supported, 70-80 percents of the demographic are still connected through free TV and cable TV. PSI is an option in a growing market of satellite TV.,
Right now, PSI is developing and strengthening its systems and network operations to incite the public and promote the satellite TV business sectors. The company aims to provide improved services to consumers, which will elevate its position as a company and a service provider. Some of the additional options proposed are product ordering and payment methods through supported channels, and the HN systems. The HN systems assist high demand users in receiving signals and distributing it through a large network: factory, dormitory or any public places. PSI commits itself to development and betterment of the satellite TV industry.
Somporn recounted the story of PSI corporation. PSI satellite TV was founded in 2004 under the name PSI Holding Co., Ltd. The growth of the company can be contributed to the lower production costs of satellites in recent years, and the fact that the company has appointed many distributors nationwide to support the growing number of members and consumers. The distribution and logistics have also been improved for fast, more reliable delivery and service. The PSI satellites have continuously improved and presently, there are many countries of exports including middle eastern countries, Australia, Africa and South Africa.
Most important to its strategies is the fact that PSI owns its satellite production plant in Suphanburi, the biggest satellite production plant in Thailand with the best reception capabilities. This is made possible by the numbers of high-end machineries in its production lines: robotic assembly and the state of the art paint systems. The plant is boosted by the certification of ISO 9000.
Currently, PSI satellite carries more than 200 channels. Therefore, an introduction of OTA (Over the Air) systems was launched. OTA is an update software, which automatically updates all the channels directly from the satellites. It helps record clients’ preferences, and habits through GPRS systems. The reception box has also been improved for two-way communications between the service providers and the consumers, in graphics form. The communications systems work in real time and offers great flexibilities in services provided.
